I would think it would be safe to use a spacer behind the adaptor if it
is a well made part of quality materials. Be absolutely sure that the
area and mating surfaces are perfectly clean before they are fastened
together. Even a little thick paint can deteriorate and the adaptor and
spacer will come loose. Road use will probably be alright. I don't know
if I would trust them in racing applications. You should also reset the
camber and toe-in.
