Hi Keith:

Years ago, my uncle - the previous owner of my car 30-068 - had a new set of plates made for the torsion bars, but they didn't last. The solution he finally found (through J.R. Mitchell at GMT Racing I think) was to have some NASCAR torsion bar round stock cut to length, squared off on the ends to fit the Turner mountings and turned down in the middle for the desired spring rate. As you may recall, my car is steel and weighs more. I don't know what spring rate they arrived at, but the rear end is very stiff and worked wonders for the handling in vintage racing for my uncle. It is too stiff for the street and probably too stiff for a lighter car, but could be adjusted by rifle drilling each bar longitudinally through the center. Perhaps you could give 'ol J.R. a call 203-778-8441.
